About The Artwork
I started this painting by cutting stencils of lotus and placing them on the canvas, stenciling in acrylic paint with flat color. I then went over the acrylic paint with oil, adding the flowers and the heron. It is a whole different way of approaching my painting and allows me to be a bit more free-wheeling although the realism always rules. I like the Rousseau-like feeling of the painting which makes it a bit surreal.

I have been painting since I was a small child and never had any other ambition in mind other than being an artist. I grew up close to New York and so I spent time as a child in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, MOMA and the Guggenheim, among others. It shaped me as an artist. I started painting in oil at age 12. Through my adult life I have worked part-time jobs to allow time in the studio. I love time alone and working with the magic of oil paint. Nature is my inspiration. I want to bring nature into people's homes.
