This piece explores the interplay of woodland silhouettes against a white circle of light. The light is ambiguous in nature and could equally be the rising morning Sun or the Moon reflecting back. At the centre is an increasing density of trees that creates a darkening of the ambient light, a nod to the mysterious perception of remote wooded areas. Each canvas is made of a heavyweight cross laminated timber frame to prevent warping or twisting, with a high quality canvas fabric hand stretched over it. The canvas was primed once stretching was complete to ensure a uniform finish and to prevent cracking. The final pieces are painted with a mixture of artist quality Golden and Liquitex acrylic paints and then sprayed with a preserving varnish to protect from UV damage. A subtle signature is visible in the bottom right corner of the rightmost canvas, each canvas is also stamped on the reverse. Please note the dimensions listed in the 'size' section above are for the largest of the 4 canvases, this is due to a quirk of the Saatchi Art shipping calculator only. The total size of the piece when mounted is: 90.5" W x 15.4" H x 1.5" D The painting is intended to be hung on a wall horizontally, with a 5cm gap between each canvas, the dimensions of the individual pieces are as follow (from left to right): 13.8" x 15.7" / 39.4" x 15.7" / 21.7" x 15.7" / 9.8" x 15.7" 35 x 40 cm / 100 x 40 cm / 55 x 40 cm / 25 x 40 cm

Nikolai Almeida is an abstract painter based in London. He works primarily in acrylics, with his artistic works characterized by two distinct styles: The first is is a blurring of reality into abstraction, initially inspired by interplay of light in a dense forest landscape, this branched out to a herringbone pixelation of scenes in ethereal colourscapes. In his second style, a systematic brushwork method is used to craft pleasing compositions, often without a particular subject matter or focus in mind. Nikolai is a practicing architect in the UK, balancing the grand scale of architecture with the intricate details of his art. His influences span a diverse spectrum of creators who share his appreciation for the process-driven nature of art. For Nikolai, art isn't an escape; it's a vibrant lifeline that enriches his architectural creativity. His paintings challenge perceptions, offering glimpses into the boundless possibilities of the abstract.
