About The Artwork

This work was inspired by a trip to Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. This iconic scene at Chateau Lake Louise has been photographed and painted numerous times since it was discovered at the turn of the 19th century. So it was a challenge to create my own version. I did a small sketch on location which I enlarged to create this full size version. It was a challenge to render the turquoise blue lake which is a feature of the Canadian Rockies as many lakes are formed by glacial melt water and are extremely cold. On the crest of the mountains is the Victoria glacier.

"There are few more satisfying and emotive experiences than making marks on a piece of paper... The process of becoming an artist in the traditional sense is embracing the set of disciplines whereby one learns to give his marks greater tangible and universal meaning to a wider audience over a longer period of time"
