This ladder is painted on a small blank canvas. By leaving the backgroudn empty and not painting it, it functions as a natural background. The angularity of the ladder symbolizes the idea that we are trying to get a grip on our environment. But the ladder itself is not 100 percent perfect and straight. It floats above the natural of which we are a part. The colors used are not black and white but off white and dark gray and almost black. The use of colors provides perspective. The ladder runs away into the depth.
