Grey Kalachakra Mandala Painting

Mandalas have been used in ancient cultures as a process of connecting with the divine. They are made for peace, prosperity and protection. Many Mandalas made entirely from colored sand, are created painstakingly over weeks by monks. They are destroyed upon completion as a lesson about the impermanence of life. The Kalachakra Mandala, otherwise known as the 'The Wheel of Time' has no beginning and no end. It is the Universal symbol of Buddhism, exuding positive vibrations. A single yak hair is used to paint finer details in the Mandala with mineral paints for purity. Structurally, the Square (Stupa), although depicted as flat, is actually a three-dimensional, five-storey mansion. It is the residence of the Kalachakra deity - a fully enlightened being who resides in the center.
