About The Artwork
An original large canvas. Framed and ready to hang. The contemporary box style wood frame is white to suit most decor. The painting is supplied with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the artist. About the painting Our meadow lies at the back of the house. This time of year the cowslips are being replaced with great swathes of buttercups and the frothy heads of the cow parsley are coming into blossom. The lilac shows a lovely dash of colour contrast. The whole feel of the meadow is one of rampant growth so I thought describing it as a Grassy Riot suited all that. I felt the painting needed a strong colour in the sky to manage all this so used subtle shades of teal blue to balance it all.

The landscape is my main source of subject for painting - particularly the orderly impact on the landscape of human habitation and farming. The framework imposed by fencing hedges ditches etc and the impact these divisions have on the land is always interesting. Colours lent to the land for a few months by growing crops is another element. The rather harsh lemon of the rape or mustard crops, the cool blue of a linseed field, the effervescent mixture of echinacea flowers - all these colours provide problems for an artist. While they are very dramatic , visually they don’t sit well with the native trees and hedge colours, but I am drawn to them as a subject on exactly that account. This is what inspires my work - colour.
