About The Artwork
This painting is based on a photo I took of a female gorilla who was taking a moment to rest her eyes whilst the zoo visitors gazed at her and her family. I wondered what she would be thinking about in such moments. Did she have any knowledge of what freedom might be? Is this the only existence she's aware of? I took these thoughts and created a different alternative reality, further blending her unnatural role in human society with this anthropomorphic state.
