About The Artwork
This work was one of several that used Maya glyphs as a starting point - the glyph itself is entirely invented, but uses some thematic elements that are found in recorded Maya stonework. I have visited Maya sites in Mexico and these places had a profound effect on me. The use of colour is to create an intensity that moves away from the stonework of original examples. oil on prepared board.
