About The Artwork

Each of the 12 canvases that make up this piece was created as an individual, all-over composition of a section of my right palm. The title references the relationship that I see between natural phenomena such as expanses of land, and aspects of the human form. The skin, aka the largest organ in the human body, facilitates passive and active engagement with the physical world, functioning as both a barrier and a conduit for tactile sensation. This painting was exhibited at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art along with an interactive game that I designed which enabled visitors to rearrange the 12 panels in any way they choose and name and save their "new" composition. This was a fun way to highlight the beauty and independence of the individual components of the piece without binding them to our very human tendency to seek order and patterns in our surroundings.
