Comeback Painting

I hope my body of work says - "Hey, it's ok, we're all doing the best we can with the tools we have and oh, look at this painting, there's something positive and happy and a reason to be grateful today. Now let's get some ice cream." Honestly, it's really that simple, evoke good feelings. The Rebirth series were motivated by the constancy of making necessary changes in one's life - whether it's changing jobs, romantic partners, business partners, places of residence, food sources, insurance, and on and on - each time we make these kind of changes, we are basically re-birthing new versions of ourselves and our lives. The whole series is inspired by the white winter snowberry. In Germany, the kids call these berries knallerbsen which loosely translates to "firecracker peas". This is because they take the berries off the bushes and throw them on the ground to watch them explode. The snowberry is about the size of a blueberry and grows on thin, leafless reeds during the months of December and January. Basically, they are the only thing that appears to be alive and growing during the dark, gray Berlin winter.
