With the world in pandemic, I have combined the familiar Chevron pattern of an emergency vehicle with one of Seurat's famous boy bathers - calling out a warning across the ages that we must face up to change for the survival of the planet. I use an acrylic ground before painting in oil. the ice blue figure of the boy is largely this "ground" or underpainting, brought to greater form by subtle oil painting. This combination of acrylic and oils creates a subtle in-out effect on the canvas that combines with the vibration of the colour and chevrons to create a unique impact.

I want my figurative paintings to have energy and atmosphere - and be totally original. Recent work has been included in the prestigious ING Discerning Eye exhibition in London, UK, and shortlisted for the John Moores Painting Prize. I also had a painting in an online exhibition with Aberdeen Art Gallery. A self portrait, The Artist And His Dog (2016) is part of the Ruth Borchard Next Generation Collection housed at the Lightbox Gallery, Woking, UK. I started painting fulltime 5 years ago after a busy career in journalism. Before that I gained an MA from Glasgow University and, while working in newspapers my practice embraced writing and photography. I exhibited photographs widely in the UK and several portraits are now part of the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery (London), Glasgow Museums and Art Galleries and in numerous private collections.. Twice Journalist Of The Year for campaign writing and I am now fully focussed on painting. I will be exhibitioning in group shows during 2021. Contact welcome.
