About The Artwork
This is the Anglican cathedral local to me. Drawn first, in two sittings. Then painted in grisaille onto canvas. Then two more days in the field, in mid-September, 2022. As ever with English cathedrals, you can't see the whole thing without trees getting in the way. Viewed from the north, looking south - at a quiet place where people would not be trying to have a look at what I was doing while working. The painting includes three figures who were sitting on the grass at one point, and have been included to show the scale. Chester Cathedral is dedicated to Jesus Christ and the Blessed Virgin.
