About The Artwork

Lately, I've been fascinated by realistic Orientalist paintings from the late 19th century. This painting shows several figures at a Cafe in Cairo, smoking, playing chess, and serving coffee. My hope is that the painting will put the viewer into a different timeframe and culture in a setting not different then their own -socializing at a cafe. I chose to paint acrylic because it is a medium that I'm accustomed to, but I use 'dirty colors' -colors that have hints of brown, tan, and ochre mixed to other colors to give it an antique look.
