About The Artwork
This piece is inspired by Chinese foot binding and Freud's penis envy. The toes and crease of the bottom of mutated feet turn into different subjects such as a penis, semen turning into umbilical cord and linked to a fetus hidden inside a blister, an eyeball staring out of a stretched vagina, and a hidden spine on the left of the painting. These symbolisms add up to the journey of a woman and what Chinese/Taiwanese society expects of their women.
