97 x 227 cm, acrylic and charcoal on sack cloth She elaborately chooses her materials between the ones that can record the signs of the past and that have a memory. The movements and wrinkles on the draperies makes us recall the trade of the goods such as coffee and red beet world wide through the centuries between east and west. In primitive societies, before the invention of writing there were inhabiting story tellers. According to the artist, even the writing facilitates the data transfer between generations as it is a tool for recording, still is not able to prevent the loss in the transaction of the old tastes and the life quality. For the artist the answer is the change in the tools and our point of view we use while perceiving the past.

Turkey
Nilay Meral graduated from Marmara University, Interior Design Department. During her education she conducted researches on art in Akademie der Bildenden Künste Wien. In her return to Turkey, she continued her artistic education in private studios of some Turkish contemporary artists such as Balkan Naci İslimyeli, Mehmet Özer, Nurettin Bektaş. The artist whose family roots in Istanbul’s old ground coffee distributers, undertakes a mission of a story teller who transfers social patterns and myths to our day. By her preference of the materials that interact with the viewer in a direct way such as coffee sacks, she appears in an abstract expressionistic language. She carried out various international shows by the sponsorship of some large corporations and consulates. The shows she made in Galerie Oberkampf, Paris and Uffizio Cultura e Informazioni, Roma are some of them. Besides being amongst a few artists who are also architect, she is the curator of Moda Deniz Kulübü Art Gallery.
