Based on an own photographic reference from around 2010, this work thematically explores Berlin's vacant lots, which emerged due to World War II and have since been almost completely built over. The painting impresses with its use of washed-out, abstract reflections in the foreground, emphasizing the transience and constant transformation of urban spaces. The subdued tones, complemented by warm accents, create a nostalgic atmosphere that highlights the lost glimpses into the urban landscape. Soft brushstrokes and transparent layers of paint generate a dreamy quality, accentuating the fleeting moments and changes in the cityscape. This technique invites the viewer to reflect on the poetic impermanence and historical dimensions of Berlin's architecture. The work captures the essence of a city in perpetual flux, telling a complex story of destruction and rebuilding.

I am a self-taught artist without a classical art education who studied interaction design and has been working as a freelance UX designer for over 14 years. I have been painting for more than 7 years now, working almost exclusively in oil. I live and work in Potsdam/Berlin. In my work I mostly deal with urban motifs and landscapes. I am interested in depicting geometric forms of urbanity with color, which is rather organically distributed over the painting ground. In turn, I paint the organic forms of nature as if they were geometric formations. I try to capture the atmosphere, the essence of a place in concrete terms while working as abstractly as possible. It is also about reducing the effort in the sense of a challenge. I try to be minimalist without sacrificing detail.
