Bad Date at the Chauvet Cave Painting

Our naive neanderthal friend decided to impress his date with a night out at the Chauvet Pont-d' Arc cave. Little did he know he would run into a woolly mammoth bent on revenge. I created this piece with the intent of combining some of the first art ever produced with the increasingly popular urban street art style. You have to acknowledge the past before you move into the future. Mixed media graffiti style shadowbox frame. Acrylic, colored pencil, marker and ink. Imagery is on and cut out of 300 lb watercolor paper, then layered in 4 slats for a 3D depth effect. Background is painted impasto with painted collage cave art replicas attached. Also noteworthy: Glued to the background in the bottom left corner is an actual piece of 10,000 year old limestone gathered by me on the shore under Niagara Falls.
