About The Artwork
BABYLON for the artist stands as a metaphor for the possibilities of a civilization that manages to integrate different traditions, cultures, religions etc., such as ancient Babylonia did. On the other hand it stands, to the artist's mind for the hubris of a society playing God - and in this way collapsing. The latter, so the artist thinks, being a sign of our times. The work is part of a series and painted in many layers of acrylics. The hyroglyphic lines are worked out with a shiny bronze marker. The work is signed, titled and dated on the back and sold without a frame but ready to hang.

I am a Czech-born and now Germany based painter. In my works I explore the essence of what surrounds me: why do people act the way they do? What lies beneath the surface of what meets the eye? What are we driven by? To express what I sense beneath the surface I feel drawn to different materials and a range of colours, which I apply in different layers on my canvases and papers, using a variety of techniques including scratching, brushing and printing. This way expressive works are created, some reduced to basic expressions, others rich in colour and texture.
