Many of my figurative paintings are intentionally placed in ambiguous settings. This painting features a partially abstracted female figure surrounded by blue. The narrative has been removed, and she both transparent and opaque; present and absent at the same time. I painted her this way to reflect my feelings on the impermanence of place and presence. This painting is oil on linen and composite silver leaf.

Jean Davis is based in San Jose, Ca, and has drawn and painted since childhood. She works primarily in oil, using reference photos she takes of her model, often in motion. This enables her to relinquish control over her subject's narrative, and allows her to work intuitively with the medium. Her work is an exploration of ideas of place and permanence, as well as the emergence of ideas and patterns that are not consciously initiated. Awards include the Clyde & Co San Francisco Community Art Award, First Place (2014) and Academy of Art University Spring Show, First Place award in abstract painting (2013).
