This is another painting inspired by the work of the great Gerhard Richter. I was walking through snow covered fields and noticed the actual snow melting, and the vegetation and first flower of the year started to show through. Reds, greens and blues and yellows: tiny specs of colour giving the first hint that although it's still cold and most of the land around was covered in snow, the promise of Spring was around the corner. I love working these with acrylic paint as it gives me the spontaneity I need to convert my thoughts onto the painting. So although at first it looks like a 'cold' image,it holds the assurance of a colourful future!

I was born in Malta into a family of jewellery makers. My early inspiration came via watching my two cousins paint in oils, and although I work mainly in Acrylics and Watercolours... the smell of turps still does something to my artistic senses! After spending more than 20 years in England as a professional artist, I was given the chance to produce and present my own art shows on Malta television... which I really love. My favorite is MALTA ON CANVAS where i go around the island and paint 'en plein air' much like the Impressionists loved doing. Recently I started to challenge myself to producing Abstract paintings but in line with my more traditional work. I feel that an artist should always strive to 'evolve' his work and challenge his mind and eyes1 www.johndimech.com Having now returned to the UK(2015) I am developing new ideas in my more modern modern paintings hoping to be inspired by more Abstract-expressionism art, but wanting the viewer to see images that one can readily recognize and respond to.
