27 Ways of Telling What Penelope Is Not (No. 7) Painting

This series of works questions the traditional role of women in the domestic and social areas. Women were, traditionally, the embodiment of passive "waiting." Very much like a Penelope expecting her Ulysses, they have had to care for the household, while men were "conquering" the world, and gained fame and wealth. Although both men and women alike have been haunted by feelings of loneliness and longing, the arts have primarily focused on those of men, and ignored those of women. This series is therefore an attempt at exploring the life, the waiting, and the loneliness of a metaphorical Penelope.
