But nothing of all this. It happens in as.|if|a|short|film: a triptych. 3 sequences separated by a few seconds of black. Each sequence is titled according to the date of the shooting, the number of the video automatically assigned by the video camera, and the duration (the same for all: 0:59:09). Editing is minimal, including the sound, which comes from the shooting environment. The title includes an abbreviation: “as”; maybe “asemic”? Maybe “absent”? ("assente" in italian). As for R. Barthes «the “filmic" is in the movie what cannot be described, is the representation that cannot be represented», is untranslatable in the most extreme sense of irreducibility to words as is rooted in the matter, in the physiology, in the specific configuration of the image; it transcends the explicit content. In as.|if|a|short|film the issue becomes more extreme, the explicit content is annihilated: the lens of the video camera points at something familiar for the person who looks into the lens, but what this gives back is not even part of an entirety; it is something irreducible. One is tempted to trace back the sequences to something recognizable: one tries an action of reconciliation with the visual experience, with what we perceive and the memory of things. Then, maybe, one gives up. The date when each shooting was done and the duration of each sequence are shown at the beginning of each one: these are pieces of information. But in the way these are represented (numbers not linked to any context), they are reduced to pure data that do not even have any relation with what the viewer experiences (there is no way to place the scenes temporally, or to gain an exact perception of the time elapsed). There are many inconsistencies and interruptions: the editing looks for both. Any action (framing, movement, sound…) does not follow another for resolution or motivation; the flux of actions is broken.
