Vol de Nuit is French for overnight flight. It features a censored Astro Boy, flying over the Battle of Los Angeles; an anti-aircraft artillery barrage which took place from late February 24 to early February 25, 1942 over Los Angeles, California. In french, the verb "voler" (as in Vol de Nuit) can either mean: to fly or to steal. The title of this piece also refers to copyright infringement issues, a hot topic in the past few years for modern art.

Emmanuel Laflamme consumes popular imagery with humor, creating scenes with strong meaning that lead us to smile and think. Like the surrealists, he develops representations with an apparent impossibility that captures the viewer's attention. He creates his works like a creative director who would have nothing to sell. Combining cultural references, he diverts ancient and modern myths to serve us his perspective on the world, at once tender and critical. The absurd is his playground, the anachronism his specialty.
