About The Artwork

Cities are usually perceived as near utopias, by those who live outside them. They are perceived as concentrators of wealth, abundance and prosperity, with the promise of a good existence for those who migrate from the countryside. However it seems, the more cities expand, the further the divide grows, between urban and rural realities. We rarely know where our food, clothes, water and energy come from, or what conditions prevail in the systems and chains that provide us with our daily needs. Furthermore, the ‘Tragedy of the Commons’, arising through the actions of multiple individuals independently and rationally consulting their own self-interest, inevitably leads to the destruction of shared limited resources, even when it is clear that it is not in anyone’s long-term interest for this to happen. This image aims to capture the successive depletion and over-exploiting of natural resources.

I was born in Portugal, with a Portuguese, Italian, British and German background. Currently I am completing my final year of a MArch in Architecture at the Bartlett School of Architecture, London. I have a keen interest in Sustainability and Environmentally conscious design. With my art I aspire to express these values and my critical observations on contemporary polemic circumstances. All my digital paintings involve careful research and structuring, as it is vital to me that the illustrated message reflects my emotional response to the subject matter. I hope you enjoy my work and I look forward to showcasing more of it.
