The world at large hangs on to a belief system that is not only completely outdated, but that was wrong in the first place. Because of this, women throughout history have had to become revolutionaries, fighting for the innate power they already possess. While there has been ‘progress’, with the world accepting women in numerous roles that were previously deemed men’s territory, there is still no recognition of equality but different. In accepting that women are equal to men, there’s no space to see the intricate differences; if those differences are recognized, equality isn’t. “Electric Ladies” is a celebration and a warning. Women are exquisitely powerful and in standing together, they are a formidable force. Their power doesn’t depend on money or position – it just is. It comes from their ability to nurture, build, create, mold, lead and discipline. It comes from their intrinsic knowledge of humanity’s deepest needs and desires. It comes from their capacity to adapt, adjust, embrace and drive change, and do what needs to be done. Artist Caddelle explores the phenomenon of female power in an electrifying series, highlighting the gross underestimation of women and how the world has tried to undermine and remove this inherent potency. He emphasizes the complete disconnect between how women are viewed and the actual reality of who they really are. Women are not cowed by this erroneous thinking. They have the patience and wisdom to stand in the righteous judgement of the misdeeds of the world, and they have the power and insight to make it right. In its metamorphosis from a caterpillar to the exquisite winged creature of delicate beauty, the butterfly has become a metaphor for transformation and hope; across cultures, it has become a symbol for rebirth and resurrection, for the triumph of the spirit and the soul over the physical prison, the material world.
