About The Artwork

When you think about it, we humans are actually so terribly different from all other primate mammals! Then I thought it would be appropriate to draw a very unreal image: A person that has grown from a flower, that looks more like lettuce than a tulip! This human figure also seems to be quite fully grown. And it can fall out of the flower at any moment. The white background should function as a kind of backlight, as an unattainable idea of heaven. The dark side panels serve as drama-enhancing elements, just like on stage. The whole may evoke an uncomfortable feeling in the audience, but at the same time the aesthetics must first work like a magnet and as soon as the attention is held, the message will seep through. Fortunately, the message is not written in granite.

Born the 31 of July 1964, Stephan B. Reisig lives and works in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.Stephan B. Reisig (57) is a painter who has lately been drawing mostly with colored pencils on paper. Sometimes he uses mixed techniques like charcoal/pencil and acrylic paint on paper. The style can be described as realism with a certain aspect of alienation and depersonalization of the depicted individual which gives it an urban anonymity. In his newest series he wants to achieve to express the pureness of used materials and the pureness and directness of the depicted (human/ animal) forms trough painting. And drawing, straight on the canvas. But mostly on paper. http://www.behance.net/gallery/Illustrations-Stephan-B-Reisig/12728531 www.stephanreisig.com / www.lama-topart.nl/catalog_showdetail.asp?type_id=&cat_id=&artist_id=42&
