Bernice U. originally from Nigeria and now residing in London, Canada, is a self-taught contemporary artist who has always harboured a strong creative spirit. Born with an inclination for art, she made do with everyday materials to express herself, crafting sculptures from wet mud and sewing clothes for her dolls, even composing music. After moving to Canada, Bernice found new inspiration in her culture shift and her experiences as a Black woman outside familiar surroundings. Her art reflects the 'curves' of life's emotional landscape—joy, growth, and struggle—mirrored in nature, human personalities, and relationships. These themes are woven through her work, which serves as a form of expression for her thoughts and feelings as a black immigrant woman. Through her creations, she aims to connect with others, share her experiences, and foster understanding and empathy, using her art to communicate what words cannot.
