Installation, Fabric on Soft (Yarn, Cotton, Fabric)
Size: 48 W x 180 H x 48 D in
In this installation, I brought to focus life on the streets of the Tenderloin, San Francisco allowing the spectacle of the street to take center stage. Situated on the top of the Golden Gate Theater, the installation is brought closer to the streets by featuring a “show” that is available to all pedestrians and inhabitants of the neighborhood. The cocoon-like figures were animatronically controlled by motors to squirm and create a cathartic performance; they remind the audience of the struggles of those who make the streets their bed. The exhibit was curated by Lance Fung and I collaborated with Christophe Piallat and Melkorka Helgadottir. The exhibit and installation were reviewed in the SF Chronicle and New York Times.
