About The Artwork

A Tale of Two Bridges was site-specific multi-dimensional work that explored the way that lines act as directives, directions, and demarcations of human action and inaction. It drew upon the implications, suggested forms, and symbolism of the newer Talmadge Memorial Bridge in Savannah, GA and its “shadow bridge”, the ruin of skeletal pylons still in place alongside. The bridge form I fabricated from glow-in-the-dark braided mason twine and black light established inside the remnants of an old confectionary building located at Southern Pine Company was a beacon of hope amidst its dilapidated surroundings of the warehouse and outlying, economically depressed, immediate neighborhood. The repeated triangular forms inspired by the cable-stayed bridge appeared to support the very dilapidated, wooden slat structure.
