About The Artwork
A huge pine tree outside Joan Miró's last studio in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, weeps resin that resembles drippings from a giant candle. The only difference is that the resin is golden and glistens in the sun, diamond-like at times. The amazing abstract qualities of this labyrinth of resin runs fascinated me. The resultant silverpoint and Plike paper drawing is nonetheless totally realistic to what I saw. Since each of us brings our own experience to bear when looking at art, every person will see different things in a drawing such as this one. Nonetheless, I saw the resinous bark inhabited by all sorts of spirits and whimsical figures... Since I specialise in metalpoint drawing, which is lustrous, unusual, permanent (to the point of precluding erasure as you are drawing) and very exact in line, I love to find subjects to draw that echo its play of light and allow a complexity and delicacy of line and effect.
