Jessie’s Gold. Drawing

Jessie Owens won 5 Olympic Gold medals in the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin and inspired me as a youngster hearing his story of racism and prejudice and how he battled and won at the Hitler Olympics! I used his story of resilience to inspire my journey and I eventually competed in 2 Olympic Games alongside my wife in my final one. I wanted to inspire other people that they can also achieve their dreams if they simply put their mind to it, work hard and never give up. The Paris Olympics is in 2024 and I wanted this piece to draw attention to not only Jessie Owens but also to the battle many people still face in society to gain equality and a fairer life.
