About The Artwork

About I live and work in Barnet, Herts (North London). I consider myself to be a versatile artist who can equally adapt to painting the sea and landscapes as drawing the human form and scenes of monuments. My interest in the arts dates back to my childhood. An education and a career in Graphics and Typography followed in the 1970's. This also involved advertising and publishing. For 30 years, I was an artist with Associated Newspapers, working in various departments but mostly at the national Daily Mail newspaper, mastering all the techniques from the traditional methods of printing to the latest electronic arts. website: www.renosart.co.uk My London Journey: This started with visits to my old haunts of Fleet Street with its old pubs and memories of bygone times, and places from the glory days of media and print. From that, London by Renos has mushroomed into an exploration of drawing the area and has now extended to most of London’s famous landmarks and beyond to other parts of the country. It is an ongoing project. The Drawings: This project is in contrast to my oil paintings. Cityscapes are worked on watercolour quality paper and images are drawn with ink or pencil and with some colour wash. Education: Sir John Cass School of Art – Foundation Course. Ealing School of Art - Degree in Graphics (was in final year with Freddie Mercury of Queen). Advanced Typographic Design at London College of Printing. Extensive workshops in art and life drawing. The new financial city of London, dominated by the Canary Wharf buildings

Sadly Renos Lavithis passed away in February 2019 after a long battle following a brain stem stroke in 2016. Contact can be made via his website if you would like any of his paintings or drawings. www.renosart.co.uk MY LONDON COLLECTION Renos is a versatile artist, equally adept at painting seascapes and boats, as he is at painting and drawing the human form, iconic scenes and monuments, activity montages and townscapes. His works cover many British and other places that he visits and explores, including his beloved Lake District in Cumbria. He lives and works in Barnet, north London. He had a 30-year career as a retouching and general artist with the Daily Mail Group but his burning desire to return to his childhood love of painting started when he visited the majestic snow-covered Himalayas. In the words of his friend Zayda Vallejo, M.Litt Founder and Executive Director of The HeartWell Institute Worcester, USA: "Renos could have been a banker, an accountant or in business (publishing, advertising, or printing) but from a very early age his heart resonated and opened to art in its many forms. After visiting Nepal in 1997, he was able to re-encounter that dormant wish to dedicate more time and energy to something that was so precious to him. The vibrant colours, the snow-covered mountains, the Stupas of Kathmandu and Temples of Baktabur, the colourful markets and pungent spices, the colourfully-dressed smiling Nepalese, all contributed to awaken his desire to go back to his art.” It’s true, Renos rejected various opportunities of professional careers including being an archaeologist and followed graphic arts which he enjoys to the full. After three decades at the newspaper, he took an early retirement and returned to his old haunts in legendary Fleet Street, the home of the British Press before the recent electronic age changed everything. He started with the pubs and the landmarks of a bygone area that he used to enjoy, and it then mushroomed into an exploration of drawing the area and extended to most of the great metropolis' famous landmarks and ways of life.
