About The Artwork

Chinese ink, pastel iridecent, acrylic on paper stretched on wood. Description: By chopping down entire strips of precious, primary timber forests, we answer to needs of intensive culture and consumption. Yet there is a fundamental rift of temporal scale between the life of a forest and that of a human. Our technological power amplifies this discord. White trunks on black background. In order to embrace this precious essence, I have used an iridescent pastel that plays with the lighting like a jewel punctuated by fine white lines and pearly droplets. The background is worked, with Chinese ink, in somber vertical wrinkles. To the eye, the height of the trees is infinite, suggesting the forests generosity. The square framing exposes, back to back, human technology on one hand and nature on the other. Medium: Chinese ink, pastel and acrylicYear Created: 2009

Born in 1955 in Vincennes / France - Advanced degree ENSAD / Paris1979 - 231, rue de Versailles 92410 Ville d'Avray / France - Tel: 33(0)644237974 - Where there is chaos, the artist has the power to bring enlightenment. The tree theme allows me to reach out to the people with my techniques, about the frailty of our planet and the cruelty of deforestation. It excites them to the plight of our shared environment and the need for its protection., I draw with the same mind as I do with my engraving studies. I like to invent my own methods. A few of my techniques took up to 20 years to perfect. My mylar method offers fantastic possibilities to work the front and back supports, and allows the layers to be seen transparently. It results in a profound way where different techniques can mix together and yet retain its separate identity. The result fixes the acrylic, ink and oil on the pastel and magnifies it."
