About The Artwork

Size: 29.7 x 21.1 x 0.5 cm Unique collage. Created in response to the events of December 14, 2008 when Muntadhar al-Zaidi made a protest against President George Bush of the U.S.A. by throwing his shoes. The throwing of shoes is an act of disrespect in the Arab culture. "This is a farewell kiss from the Iraqi people, you dog," yelled al-Zaidi in Arabic as he threw his first shoe towards Bush. "This is for the widows and orphans and all those killed in Iraq," he shouted as he threw his second shoe.

Marcus Irwin's graphic collages, serigraphs and digital prints bring into conflict the interplay between image and text, using found printed material and ephemera that is ubiquitous in our everyday lives to juxtapose popular imagery with motifs from movies, television, advertising and the internet.
