About The Artwork

I’ve always followed politics, in one form or another. The problem is, each side of the argument convinces me that they’re right – until the opposite side presents their case, and I change my mind. It’s the same with court trials. Unless I am certain of the outcome, I’m easily convinced that each side of the case is telling the absolute truth. Eventually, the last person with a living memory of World War Two is going to die. So far, the narrative of that conflict is fairly clear, to me at least. One side caused it, the other side (my side) won it and from this apparent great truth all history will be eternally written. But what happens when future generations start examining World War Two without any connection to living witnesses? Given the fact that Western civilization has undermined its own long-standing principles of democracy, replacing it with special-interest groups, none of which appear to give a thought to ordinary people, what’s to stop a future generation from simply rewriting history to suit themselves? My favourite part of this collage is at the right of the image where a skull, representing Death, swallows up the invaders whole. I no longer hate/distrust Russia, or Russian people. Russians are fine people, tempered by some of the most brutal invasions in world history. I make no claims to understand them either. However, the Russians have forgotten more about living than I’ll ever know. And the next time Western civilization tries starting another Cold War with them, I’m not going to listen – because today it’s my side who seem like the world’s bad guys … preaching ‘democracy’ (2013 = strip clubs, gambling, secularized political correctness etc), while offering compulsory neo-colonialism in return.
