When I began painting some years ago, I was trying to portray myself as a lonely man. However, I soon realized that it wasn’t me in particular who was lonely, and began rather to depict the solitude and loneliness I observed all around me. Even though I was never an impartial observer, I nonetheless tried to refrain from taking any stance, or promoting any ideology through my works, and remained focused on learning about the nature of things, and what was happening around me. After much searching, in every sense of the word, I learned that the key to understanding the phenomenon of loneliness is hidden in our ‘self’, or ego.
