Wars of Attrition

The media are saturated with harrowing photographs of war zones and atrocities, to the point where their ubiquity can nullify their impact. I selected a series of these photographs and added sandpaper to them to try and arrest the eye and reinstate the power of the original image. So often these wars are counter-productive with the injuries and loss of life on each side merely reinforcing their anger and lust for revenge, producing a cycle of violence. Sandpaper is an abrasive material and a symbol of these wars of attrition. Whenever possible I’ve credited the photographer on the back of each collage.
