18 Days

Documenting the temporality of Wartime structures ‘18 Days’ looks at the significance of relics from the 18-day Battle of Hong Kong in WW2: their role in memory, as reliquary, our interaction with them and their ‘roots’ in history, and the roots of their destruction. Time exacerbates the elemental damage by humans and nature alike. Unprotected, there is an eerie beauty in their decay and return to nature; a stillness that contrasts what they represent. They mark defeat and face omission from the new narrative with no place in a modern ‘Theatre of War’.
