Chris Thomas has spent the last 30 years working as a freelance Photojournalist and Advertising Photographer. His work has appeared in; TIME, NEWSWEEK, SPORTS ILLUSTRATED and The NEW YORK TIMES. He was the only Canadian photographer put on exclusive contract by SPORTS ILLUSTRATED during the Calgary `88 Winter Olympics. At home, he has contributed to such Canadian publications as Maclean's, Cosmopolitan, Saturday Night, The Calgary Herald, The Financial Post, The Calgary Sun, The Globe & Mail and The National Post. His work has also appeared in European and Asian publications such as NEWSWEEK JAPAN, DER SPIEGEL, and SEURA. In the late 70's Chris began putting his cameras to work as a Commercial Diver specializing in Underwater Photography and Non-Destructive Testing. Chris ran the offshore Photo Departments on many projects for such companies as Lloyds of London, British North Sea Oil, McDermott International Inc, Danbor and Statoil. Since I didn't particularly enjoy spending months on end at sea, after several years of it; I decided to "hang up my diving hose" and move to Canada's energy capital, Calgary. Chris has shot Annual Reports for all of the largest energy companies in Canada. He takes select photographic assignments from many of the world's largest energy companies. "In the beginning, my photographic interest was photojournalism. This is what taught me to make strong images! It's been very useful, in my Corporate and Advertising work. Agency work has included Ogilvy & Mather, Saatchi & Saatchi, BBDO, TBWA\Chiat\Day. "I'm still discovering the world through my photography. I've travelled extensively throughout North, Central and South America as well as Europe and Asia. I still love location work! These days I'm able to spend much more time on my personal Fine Art projects and this has become my primary focus. I'm my own publisher now! “
”Having said that; I'm always very excited when interesting assignments come up. My development as an artist has been intimately linked to work with superb Photo Editors and Art Directors.”
