At the center of my extensive oeuvre is the investigation of simple, usually abstract visual signs such as stripes or dots and their artistic effect. In doing so, I reduce the set of graphical means primarily to vertical orientation, and painterly to the basic colors yellow, magenta and cyan, as well as black and white. In harmony, there are often images of high fragility to stability as well as transparency, movement and speed. In this overall context, every single work can be seen, both works on paper and on canvas. "Rush Hour" is no different than other pictures except that it sets more to black and white. On the canvas, a collage of linocuts is glued on, which easily shines through and gives structure to the lines.

"Lehmann's images tell of the effect of the painting and the power of color, arising from the interaction of the primary colors of yellow, red and blue. In the process, his work has always to do with the chance. Such coincidences are something of a gift for a painter who is not afraid of the experiment, rather handles with different and unusual tools to gain new insights from the experimental experience. (...) By touching these themes Bernhard Lehmann seems to consider rather the sense of Lessing as a way to conquer new artistic dimensions, because to bring together the immediate of the gestural abstraction with the rational calculus of the concrete, actually means to combine the incompatible. These images show that this succeeds." (Dr. Ute Maasberg) "... Lehmann repeatedly stresses the process of drawing and thereby produces enigmatic works which simultaneously seem to conceal and to document the story of their own creation"(Prof. David Galloway, "art for expo", 2000. This words which the curator of the modern Iranian art collection wrote to my works are still valid today. New tools, such as strips and dots, meanwhile complement my repertoire and expand the design possibilities.
