In physics, the law of entropy states that energy (and as a result order) dissipates over time unless we expend more energy in order to keep things the way they are: hot things lose their heat to the environment unless heated up again, leaves wither, animals die. Even the rocks in this painting will eventually be worn away by wind, water and friction. The title of the work was suggested by the large decaying leaf (top left) that I found on a walk. As I was painting it over the course of a few days, the beautiful colors that indicated the various stages of its decay changed, and grew fainter. Maybe it's the fleeting nature of such things that makes them attractive to paint. I love going out into nature and finding things like this, then spending time really looking at them and trying to capture their hidden beauty. This picture is painted in acrylic and acrylic inks - with charcoal used initially to sketch in the various objects and shapes. It's varnished and painted on the sides as well as the front, and shipped in a tube.

Turkey
I am an artist and writer with paintings in private and corporate collections in Turkey, the UK, the United States, Canada and Australia. I live in Adana, Turkey. I am a member of both local and national jury-selected artists' associations and often participate in Turkish-government sponsored exhibitions in other countries. I paint in both figurative and abstract styles, but most recently my interest has been in capturing the kind of details in nature that you would usually pass by without a second glance: things like weathered rocks, broken branches and dying leaves. The idea behind this 'Vanitas' series is perhaps that the value and beauty of the ordinary things in nature lies in their impermanence. Many of my works are built up of multiple layers over a long period of time − using a variety of techniques and tools. Layers of paint are poured, glazed, scratched, and rubbed away until the desired effect is achieved. Each exhibition I take part in brings me into contact with many artists and art lovers, whose feedback and reactions to my work I find invaluable. I continue to develop new techniques and explore new approaches in order to develop my personal response to the world around me.
