To paint is an affirmation. To lift ones head and look around and within the self, to comprehend and see through. I paint what I see.

The down to earth Van Gogh along with his excesses and the later gestural expressionists has been largely a source of inspiration in
my preliminary years. The vibrancy angularity and application of paint resonated a life force beneath its crude marks. It is not the exaggeration of emotion, dandy romanticism or sentimentality but I have tried to understand and acquire the value of an optical and physical sensation created through paint. It gave me the impulse to paint.

The realism of Caravaggio and Courbett has helped me to anchor my self to my roots. The passion of Greco and the poetry of Munch, Klee and Ganesh Pyne led me to realize the inherent lyricism in painting. I owe a great deal to Francis Bacon who led me to understand that painting transmutes cerebral pessimism into a nervous optimism.

Ramkinkar Baij s heroic celebration of beauty deeply imbedded in life, nature and reality have had a profound influence on me and I still try to comprehend it through my work. Finally, I have inherited the sensibility and tradition of narrative from the gharana of Indian paintings and the cubist notion of multiple viewpoints led me towards an overall investigation into the subject through visual means.

I have come across a process of gradual assimilation and I seek to formulate a visual language, which is comprehensive and can express the necessary in creative terms.

I paint the daily version of the human being trapped within and outside the self. The process is a continuous revelation of the dynamics of a social construct.I try to relate the essential relations, the inherent crisis and contradictions through a visual mode. It is an act of restoring and restructuring memories out of chaos and a search for meaning.

The forms shape up from the tension and interplay of opposing forces and the cataclysm results in an assimilation of disparate moments. I try to relate to the nature of things and extract the underlying metaphor in relation to our day-to-day existence.

Painting is a visual diary to me, a summing up of confessions.
