About The Artwork

Weaving Crane’s return for a favor @ Assam After a mother showed me her threading, which had such a bright color of pink, another young woman sitting behind the loom and started to weave. The loom was weathered as it sets outdoor, but she took time and carefully weave one thread at a time. Her elegance that she was born with, reminded me of the Japanese folk tale “ Crane’s returns of a favor”. A man saves a crane that got hurt by hunters. The next day she tells the man that she is going in a room to make something and that he is not to come in until she is finished. She tells the man to go to the markets the next morning and to sell this most beautiful cloth no one has ever seen. The man's curiosity took over him and he peeked in, realizing that the woman is actually the crane that he saved. When the crane saw that the man has found out her true identity, she said that she can not stay there anymore and flies away to never come back. I attached my crane in Japanese style painting next to her portrait. 2 panels. -Oil on canvas painting portrait 36x24" -Nihonga Japanse watercolor 36x12" hand skimmed paper wrapped on a birch panel.

My heart for art was fostered from my home country. After I spent enough time in the South Eastern US and experimented with a large variety of colors and materials as a visual artist, I wanted to revisit my original heritage. The Japanese mineral painting method is a complex technique. You start by making your own balance of deer glue, mixed with your choice of organic and mineral pigments. Japanese hand skimmed papers are then prepared for painting. These materials all come from our mother earth, and I have a profound appreciation for them. I am here now, because I feel that this meticulous process is important, interesting, and serves to inspire within me the true essence of art.
