About The Artwork
This probably appears to be a simple still life, but there's actually a lot of symbolism. Of course the hourglass symbolizes time, and the sand having run out indicates that time us up. Less obvious is the figs and pear being arranged in the same pattern, symbolizing following other's behavior. The pomegranate, in its red boldness, symbolizes the "dark horse".
