About The Artwork
This unusually landscape oriented painting in Matisse inspired fauvist style, features a chinoiserie bowl planter spilling over with pink and white orchids and lavish spear-shaped leaves. The background is painted in vivid kelly green while the blossoms are white with hints of peach and cream, splashed with a striking magenta pink pattern and centered with vermillion orange pistils and stamens. Leaves, spilling from the ornate porcelain bowl, feature lively visible brush strokes in a vast array of greens from mint to emerald to pistachio through lime and a fizzing acidic yellow-green. This is the first piece I painted in my new home after moving from Williamstown, Massachusetts. It will ship wrapped in layers of glassine and generous padding, from my home in Oakland California.
