About The Artwork

In the picture you can see that some objects are left uncolored. There is a story why. It should be our „Romantic Dinner“ I prepared for husband, after I put our child in bed It was late evening. I setup the table and waited for him. But he have called and told me that he stayed one more day in his business trip. So my expectations were ruined. You know it is good when relationship has a bit spicy taste especially in lockdown when you are very tired of house routine and child. However, this evening I felt more bitter taste than spicy. I would like to mention about wooden panel I used for painting. This wooden panel dates from the 80s I painted on covered by different types and color of spots and prints that have formed and appeared during 40 years. This wooden panel have long history and it was used as drawing panel in Imperial Art academy of Saint Petersburg. Students stretched moisted paper and fixed on this panel. I have chosen them because I fell in love with its surface. You can see scratches and stains of various origins. The wooden surface retained the patina of time and archived various traces of frozen moments of life. It reminded me of the surface of the dining table, at which life routine happens every day: solving important problems, clarifying relations between family members, discussing future plans... each of these moments leaves an invisible mark in time. This series of artworks focus on the reality of social distancing, home quarantine and CoVId 19 panic. Everybody was locked in their houses. "In my case, everything moved to the kitchen table during the quarantine. It became especially important place for the family. At the dining table we have solved different problems, clarified personal relationships and plans for the future. My dining table has become the child's playground, my husband's office and, of course, the family's dining table at the same time. Everything cycled around the table. I repeatedly asked myself - where is my place as an artist in this house? ”

I use a mix of techniques to create my paintings. I am interested in the aesthetics of hidden, undiscovered and often invisible matters. I consider/examine personal experience, feelings and involvement in the context of historical and social events in order to find opportunities for transformation and adaptation to new living conditions. I engage with social subjects such as power, stateless status, migrations, integration, assimilation, consumption, female issues and also rituals, traditions and the ghosts of the past, inhabiting and hacking our current state of affairs.
