About The Artwork
This is the first painting from the series "Fuji by Night". It is intended as a study and under the transparent layers of paint you can see traces of an older painting. I made my first works inspired by Mount Fuji forty years ago when I was at art school. Mount Fuji stayed in my mind, but I never found the way to represent it until a few months ago. By chance, while working with some transparent color layers that gave a completely different result than what I intended, I saw how I could use this to render Mount Fuji. The atmosphere evoked by the transparent layers of color was perfect for this. The painting may be for sale soon. It is now temporarily on view outside my studio.

Kees Schouten, 1961, Netherlands. I graduated ArtSchool in 1984 as a painter and printmaker. I was awarded by The Dutch Art Society in 1987 (for painting). First showed photoworks in 1995. From 2010 to 2017 i only made photoworks, still lifes. In 2017 i started to make collages and prints again after quite a few years. In 2022 i had a large studio built in the corner of my garden. Since then i am painting again. I am Teaching Photography at Graphic Design College, Utrecht (NL).
