About The Artwork

The composition is a surface construction of rectangular boxes in a vertical and horizontal grid pattern. In each box the center is a resin matte medium surface which is spotted and textured with repetitive colors interspersed throughout the entire surface. Each layer of boxes is thickly outlined by white, red, yellow and blue. The title “Don’t Fence Me In” reveals the contradictory message of a box that is encircled in a series of colors, sometimes where we too find ourselves boxed in, and the other reality of diversity and uniqueness of each rectangular form and structure that individualized. Otherwise stated, the impression of being locked, one of many, not unique in society, versus the other reality, that being one of many, does not deny one’s uniqueness. The special composition of each rectangle, showing intricate designs of color, texture and design spotlight the originality of individual identity within a unified, multi-complex whole.
