About The Artwork

It is a replica of 17 century original Anthony van Dyck portrait of Piter Brueghel I have made in gorgeous hall of Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia with the official seal of the museum. The art replica were covered with a layer of a modern synthetic ground (priming). The image changes compromise composition rules hiding some fragments under the white ground layer whereas other fragments are highlighted from the lower layer of painting. I drew a parallel between the surface of Old Masters paintings and the ordinary life of people. However, new layer of white ground intrudes into the surface whenever we tackle life changes and situations which force us to modify our ordinary way of life and outlook. Now we perceive life / surface in a new way but the images of the past always affect the new surface. The process of the image covering with white layer signifies the fragments which were consigned to oblivion as well as the new beginning or new life.

I use a mix of techniques to create my paintings. I am interested in the aesthetics of hidden, undiscovered and often invisible matters. I consider/examine personal experience, feelings and involvement in the context of historical and social events in order to find opportunities for transformation and adaptation to new living conditions. I engage with social subjects such as power, stateless status, migrations, integration, assimilation, consumption, female issues and also rituals, traditions and the ghosts of the past, inhabiting and hacking our current state of affairs.
