About The Artwork

« Décors » is the anagram of CORDES and was inspired by the medieval village of Cordes sur Ciel in Occitanie, in the southwest part of France. Cordes sur Ciel was the first of the bastide towns built in 1222 by the Cathars to protect themselves from papal crusaders. It's called « Cordes sur Ciel »because in the right conditions, mist rises from the valley and cloaks the hill so the town is floating in the sky on a sea of mist. Cordes sur Ciel fascinates all the people who discover this city, because first it is a vision : a city rising up to the assault of the sky. Then because it’s an art and history book, animated for 800 years thanks to the memory of the stones and men who built it. I incorporated the historical buildings of the village in a decomposed and really personal way. My studio is located in my house in the heart of the medieval village and I invite you to visit it.

Natalie L. fascination for the Impressionists led her to create her first paintings under this influence. As her tastes has been evolving towards modern and contemporary art, she has gradually moved away from figuration. After a career in the tourism industry, Natalie, a Parisian born artist, left the city life in 1999 to embark on a somewhat "bohemian life style". Traveling the South Pacific gave her the time and inspiration to fulfill her dream of becoming a full-time artist. One of the consequential experiences of her life was sailing around the world. That will lead her to live between Florida and the south west of France. She works in series and the themes and styles are influenced by that changing temporality. From figurative to abstract, from cubism to impressionism, from painting to sculpture, her very eclectic work reflects the pleasure she feel in experimenting. Her most recent work focus on new interpretation of cubism including figurative subjects matters.
